念慈因弄不清孙儿身分，思虑过度染风寒，又因发梦过多而不适，念慈想到自己差点可在梦中见到欢、喜长大后的相貌，大叫不值。念富教念慈狂吃大头菜追梦，念慈终梦见十八年后的欢欢、喜喜，可惜空欢喜一场。念慈带着念富向半日仙求救，获一「缘」字锦囊。念慈在庙中见一对久别多年兄妹重逢经过，终明白个中道理。 欣素百无聊赖，见佘松、马虎因黄大妈未回忙个不了，请缨回衙门协助。欣素抹尘时险从楼梯跌下，幸阿年及时扶着，二人尴尬。黄大妈送了一对龙凤石给阿年、欣素作谢礼，二人同去找着名篆刻师马介休，始知介休已退休，二人被一不知名师傅缠着光顾，欣素把其戏弄一番，二人乐得不可开交。阿年邀欣素同吃午膳，但终因各有私务，无缘一起，依依不舍分开。 阿月通宵达旦凑仔，疲惫不已，向念慈等求助，但无人肯伸出援手。阿年与欣素在众人面前继续扮水火不容，却不约而同带备厚礼拜访介休，请其雕刻图章，介休声言早已封刀，欣素以为钱作怪，但见一富翁送来金银珠宝，介休也不为所动。阿年及欣素苦苦哀求，介休开出找得紫色灵芝让他治咳嗽的条件。阿年、欣素寻遍附近山头，虽异口同声说放弃，但其实二人都不约而同往山上走。二人明白彼此都想继续找灵芝，决继续努力，但二人不幸同时堕下山坡。
